Surprise Rafters Roster

Davis, Moustakas, Kennedy Top 2009 Arizona Fall League Squad

Oct 19, 2009 David Hein

Mets first baseman Ike Davis, Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas and big league pitchers Matt Harrison and Ian Kennedy top the Surprise Rafters roster for the AFL.

New York Mets star first baseman prospect Ike Davis is probably the biggest name for the Surprise Rafters roster for the 2009 Arizona Fall League. But there are other big names to follow on the Rafters, including Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas and Rangers lefty Matt Harrison and Yankees right-hander Ian Kennedy, the last two who pitched in the Major Leagues this past season.

Pitchers

Some of the biggest names on the Rafters' pitching staff are two pitchers who spent time in the Major Leagues this past season as Matt Harrison was a lefty for the Texas Rangers and Ian Kennedy was tried at times for the New York Yankees rotation. A big prospect for the pitching staff will be Texas righty Tanner Scheppers, who will be making his debut after getting drafted from Fresno State.

Catchers

Bryan Anderson is considered St. Louis's catcher of the future so Cardinals management would love to see him step up. Austin Romine meanwhile played last season at High-A for the Yankees and is a top catcher in New York's system.

Infielders

Left-handed slugger Ike Davis hopes a strong Arizona Fall League combined with a gold medal World Cup showing with Team U.S.A. can get him a spot in the Mets lineup next season. Also looking to make the Majors next season is Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas, who finished last season at High-A.

Outfielders

One of the main players to watch in this outfield will be New York's Colin Curtis, who will be challenging Austin Jackson for a future spot in Yankee Stadium. A strong AFL showing could help that.
