More Problems for A-Rod

Selena Roberts' Rodriguez Bio Will Put Even More Pressure on Alex

Just when you thought things were getting better for Alex Rodriguez they take a turn for the worse.

The 12-time All Star has been said to have taken performance enhancing drugs, not only with his time in Texas, but since his high schools days, where steroids were one aspect of his negative behaviour.

The Steroid Admission

It’s been a rough 12 months for Rodriguez. Sports Illustrated author Selena Roberts reported that Alex had taken steroids from 2001 – 2003. Unlike Rogers Clemens, Barry Bonds and others, Alex admitted his use in hopes to move along with his career. After the report, the New York native admitted that he took Primobolan and testosterone in an exclusive interview to ESPN.

'A-Rod' Book

After the dramatic admission, Alex had surgery on his ailing hip on March the 9th. The slugger hasn’t even played a game for New York this season since he is still recovering. To add insult to injury (literally), the new book entitled 'A-Rod' by Selena Roberts has many people angry, including Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

"I have some issues with it, that it's interesting how the book date got moved up now," Girardi said to the Associated Press which appeared on The Sports Network's website this past weekend. “I get tired of answering these questions. I don't understand why someone would write a book like this anyway, and some people may not care to hear that but I don't understand."

The book not only goes into detail about Alex’s drug use, but also the fact that he may have started taking drugs as early as high school and even after he joined the pinstripes, although he said he stopped after the joining the Yankees in 2004.

The MLB will now look into and investigate his previous statements about steroid use. It was expected that Bud Selig would not take any action after the admission but perhaps he had a change of heart.

The book will be a tell-all book that is sure to hit the New York Times best seller list and cause even more problems for A-Rod. There has been criticism of Alex for his playing and how his numbers were lower during the post-season, a fate that many of the great players in all sports face. However, now his problems off the field are joining his problems on the field.

Add the fact that his wife filed for divorce after his affair with Madonna, it’s hard to imagine that it could get any worse for Alex. Perhaps he’ll be current steroid use, but besides that after a divorce, admission to steroids, injuries, investigations and a tell all book, his career can’t have much more of a downturn. Girardi has said that he finds it hard to believe that anyone would want to read into someone’s personal life, whether they are an athlete or a president. Perhaps in this case at least, it’s because he was supposed to be the best player in the league who was naturally skilled and not simply another black eye for baseball.

Looks like A-Rod is exactly that: a black eye on the face of baseball!
